Secret Gardens Italy is arranging a special day in Umbria on Saturday, August 2, visiting one of the most fanciful gardens on the Italian peninsula, followed by an open-air operatic performance of Rossini’s “Cinderella”, the local girl who becomes the Umbrian fiefdom’s princess. The visit concludes with a full-town dinner shared with cast and orchestra in the tiny, progressive town of Castel di Fiori. If anyone is interested in a unique Italian experience, especially opera fans, this evening is a not-to-be-missed event!
This 21st century garden designed by Tomaso Buzzi is an over-the-top series of garden rooms of oversized statuary among well-curated exotic and native plantings. From the famous folly of the buildings of ancient Rome sculpted from tufo in its center, to the XIII chapel and dormitory built by St. Francis, it is a visually exciting allegory, specially guided by the Australian and Italian sculptors responsible for the garden’s amplification after Buzzi’s death in 1981. These charming storytellers and talented garden designers also maintain the 15-hector garden with its unspoiled 360-degree vistas to the horizon. Local Sagratino wine will be served during the garden reception.
Rossini’s “Cinderella” is well-scaled for this medieval town’s central piazza. For details, see:
