But the artists’ installations in the gardens are what you will remember. Each one tells a story --- some metaphorical, others metaphysical --- of sacred or profane images. Individual artists and craftmen, working with ceramics, glass, stone, wood, fibers and water in astonishing combinations, have visualized fantastic stories – of animals, architectural follies, fantasy creatures --- some big as buildings. The plants cultivated in each of these gardens are remarkably different, too, and botanists find lots to savor from these visits also.
Some visits are guided by the artists themselves, in addition to our guides, and the gardens’ history, stories and metaphors are fun to discuss over a catered lunch with wine.
